With the increase of mobile internet access users over the years and in order to enhance service quality and to satisfy the public need for internet access during outdoor leisure or business activities, the Executive Yuan and its respective agencies have set up more than 5,000 WiFi hotspots in select indoor government offices, tourist attractions, and public transportation stations to provide wireless internet access services. The service began providing Taiwanese citizens with free wireless internet and basic information services on October 7th, 2011. Its Service Set Identification (“SSID”) is iTaiwan.
From July 1st, 2020.Registration is no longer to required,including local residents and foreign visitors could surf the internet at any Hotspot located within more than 5,000 indoor public offices displaying the iTaiwan icon shown below. The iTaiwan service provides users with 1M internet access bandwidth.
This new convenient service will allow people to check their e-mail or browse the internet while they are away from home or at government offices for business.
